st. luke's rooftop garden
The one-third-acre rooftop garden at St. Luke's Medical Center is designed to provide a natural feeling environment that fosters stress reduction and facilitates a sense of well-being for patients and families. The landscape serves a variety of purposes, functioning as a place of solace, compassion, inspiration and hope, as well as a setting for families, friends and/or advisors to have private time together. It can be a quiet, peaceful place for reflection, can serve as a place for religious services, or just a place to stroll or nurture plants.
The design is organized into several distinct areas: Conservatory, which allows patients to experience the garden during the cold winter months; Open Area; Contemplative Garden; Overlook; Secluded Seating Area; Strolling Path; Horticultural Therapy and Viewing Garden. A combination of public and private spaces that are active and passive accommodate a variety of needs and create a complex and rich environment. Soothing curves, trickling water features and colorful plantings join to create a relaxing, stress-reducing outdoor environment.
