university of wyoming - prexy's pasture

Prexy's Pasture, the central quadrangle at the University of Wyoming, is framed by the University's most architecturally significant buildings and is currently surrounded by vehicular access routes and parking. The project goal is to transform Prexy's Pasture into a pedestrian oriented environment, which will require that vehicular access routes and parking be eliminated. Pedestrian traffic is being redirected so students from dormitories will enter the quadrangle through the student union. From there, pedestrians flow out into a primary gathering space or student center plaza with amphitheater seating for performances and special ceremonies. Plazas with benches, boulders and native landscaping create comfortable, quiet respites for students. Materials are consistent with the existing environment and help convey the overall feeling of a `casual dignity' that pervades through the University's built environment.
