amesse elementary learning landscape, denver
Denver Public Schools hired Russell + Mills Studios to create the learning landscape for Amesse Elementary. The transformation of older school asphalt playgrounds into rich, intricate learning environments has been a program spearheaded by Lois Brink at University of Colorado, Denver for over a decade.
Working with students in her program, Masters of Landscape Architecture, Russell + Mills Studios provided guidance and oversight of the students designs and work for this specific site. Designing in a collaborative studios environment and taking a hands on approach to their studio, Russell + Mills Studios were able to infuse a professional perspective and advance the design to a construction documentation level. One of the students also worked as an intern to continue his work on the project in our office as further work experience.
Russell + Mills Studios provided illustrative site plan, design development and construction drawings for the project. The learning landscape is currently under construction. Russell + Mills Studios is also providing construction administration services for the duration. The project will be complete in October, 2009.
