steck elementary learning landscape and playground design

Russell + Mills Studios were hired by Denver Public Schools to provide landscape architectural services in the design development, construction documentation and the construction administration of a learning landscape and playground at the existing Steck Elementary School.

Russell + Mills Studios led a community outreach process to engage a parent-led playground design advisory group. A preliminary on-site walk through with this group helped establish a set of issues, needs and ideas. A set of design alternatives were then developed in response to this and a preferred design direction was established. Drainage issues have been a key improvement on this site and solved using bio-swales, avoiding on-site detention.
