teller elementary learning landscape and playground design

Russell + Mills Studios were hired by Denver Public Schools to provide landscape architectural services in the design development, construction documentation and the construction administration of a learning landscape at the existing Teller Elementary School. The plan helped resolve stormwater run-off on site and resolves circulation, emergency access and existing grade challenges. A central shade structure creates a central gathering space and functions as an outdoor classroom.

Age separated play areas are located around the perimeter of the site and are easily accessed through the play hardscape. A small student garden area along Garfield Street provides an educational opportunity for students and supports the curriculum’s goal of teaching students how to grow plants.
